The process of recognizing individuals within a group of people is referred to as identification. In the context of artificial intelligence and image processing, identification typically involves discerning and verifying individual identities based on specific features or characteristics. This can include matching a person's face to a pre-existing database of known individuals or leveraging biometric data. Identification is critical in various applications, such as security systems, attendance tracking, and personalized marketing, as it enables systems to differentiate between individuals accurately.

While facial recognition is a technology that enables identification by analyzing facial features, the term itself refers specifically to the method rather than the overarching process. Grouping and similarity pertain to categorizing or clustering data points based on certain characteristics and do not directly relate to the individual recognition of persons within a group. Thus, identification is the most precise term to describe the process of recognizing specific individuals in a crowd or group setting.
